Lizards, Lizards Everywhere

You have probably seen these little brown and green critters somewhere in your yard or on your porches. These lizards are some of  the most familiar reptiles in the New Orleans area. They are know as  anole. They are the little green and brown lizards. Green anoles have a limited ability to change their colors, prompting the nickname “false chameleons.” Green anoles can change only from green to brown while a chameleon’s skin can exhibit a broad spectrum of rainbow colors. Anoles are members of the iguana family and are found throughout the southeastern U.S., as far north as North Carolina and as far west as Texas. They are also found in warm climates throughout the Caribbean Islands and South America.

Why Lizards Are Good For Your Home

Anole lizards are actually very busy little creatures. They eat flies, spiders and small crawly things found around your house. They tend not to consume many mosquitoes, but will capture them opportunistically, according to experts. Anoles also relish crickets mealworms, waxworms and butterworms. So, if you have any in your yard or even find they on  your porch, remember they can help with your pest control; however, if the lizards aren’t doing a good enough job for your home, give Terminix a call!
