Bed bugs are hitchhikers. They will latch onto suitcases, clothes, and shoes and travel wherever you take them. These bugs seem to take up residence in beds because that’s where their food is located, but they will also live in other parts of the home too. Bed bugs only feed on blood and they eat regularly. However, bed bugs will feed on any warm blooded animal. The important thing is to spot the signs of a bed bug infestations and call Terminix to get rid of them quickly.
How To Identify Bed Bugs
Bed bugs have an oval shape and only grow to about 3/16th of an inch in length. They are brown and flat until they eat, and then they become redder, swollen and elongated. They have 6 legs and 2 antennae. Adult bed bugs are big enough to be visible by the human eye, but bed bug nymphs are a lot harder to see because they are small and paler in color. But, don’t worry, there are still other signs you can look for to determine whether or not you have a bed bug infestation.
Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation
The best way to identify the signs left behind by bed bugs is to look for small reddish-brown fecal spots on mattresses, upholstery and even the walls. If you find these spots, it may indicate that you have an infestation. Next, check to see if you have bites on your arms and legs. These bites are small and may take two to three days to show. Bed bug bites are hard to identify because they can be confused with many other types of bites. Additional signs of a bed bug infestation include sightings of bed bug molt skins, eggs or empty eggshells. The molt skins and eggs are pale in color.
